And everything was going so well...
![]() I'm sure that there is a simple solution. I have a single drive with two primary partitions. XP is on the first. Vista is on the second. Drive Vaccine was installed on the XP partition. Whenever I try to boot to Vista I get a quick BSoD crash and a restart. It seems I can only boot to my XP partition. Tips? Advice? Thank you. |

I searched for "dual boot" in trouble shooting. Here is what I found:
Can I setup/install or use Drive Vaccine on a Dual boot or Multi-boot System configuration? Yes, you can. However, you would need to install Drive Vaccine on both OS's. To understand the reasoning behind this type of installation, you need to realize that Drive Vaccine has 2 logical components: 1. The Subconsole, which is the mini OS that boots prior to Windows. (hidden - not visible during boot up) 2. The GUI component - which is the Windows component that hooks into the Subconsole The first time you install Drive Vaccine, the Subconsole component is installed BELOW the Windows OS. In addition, a GUI component is also loaded onto the primary (first OS of the Dual boot system) Operating System. The next setup step would be to Only install the GUI component onto the secondary (Second OS of the Dual boot system). Because the Subconsole part is already installed and loaded under Windows, it will be operational no matter what OS you are running. The GUI then allow you to control Drive Vaccine and its subconsole - where you can see the baseline, perform the restores, make updates etc. Horizon DataSys Support Portal How do I install on the secondary OS if it crashes when I try to access it? Also, how do I install just the GUI component on the secondary OS? Thanks. |

I've since uninstalled and reinstalled using custom settings for dual boot. The setup left me scratching my head. It said it needed to restart to finish, but then it never restarted. I waited for a minute or two and restarted manually, since setup ended with no further processes. There was no further installation of the software, as I was hoping for, on reboot. All it seemed to do was put an icon in the system tray that had no functionality.

Okay! Problem solved.
If anyone else runs into this problem, here is the remedy given to me through a support ticket:The first you need to do is to remove Drive Vaccine on your PC, then please use the following instruction for dual boot setup: 1. Boot up your main OS 2. Run the setup.exe for Drive Vaccine 3. Choose Custom install 4. When you get into the Multi-Boot System, choose "This computer is a multi-boot system, start setup in this OS first" 5. After the setup has complete, it will ask for restart, then boot up your second OS 6. Go through the setup.exe, choose custom, this time you choose the first option 7. Done |
