Hi group! I just helped a friend install Rollback on a DELL machine running XP MCE sp3. After a settled installation, the BOOT time for the Rollback enabled system is about 17-sec longer that a non-Rollback enabled system. This time does not include the Rollback boot screen, it just includes the time from when the Windows XP logo appears and the sweeper bar begins to an observable desktop. I didn't think Rollback was that much involved in the BOOT process.
His machine is a 2.4ghz single core intel and mine is a 2.8ghz dual core AMD... I don't seem to notice any BOOT time difference (could be me, though). Anyone see similar anomalies (or features )... just curious as to what's going on during the BOOT by Rollback after its boot screen is gone. Thanks! |

Hi Froggie. You may have noticed me posting recently about slow boots effecting icon loading at boot time in this post
Rollback Rx icon fails to load in System Tray on boot up So I'm very familiar with slighly slower boot times upon installing Rollback. In fact as mentioned, my boot time increases over time ever so slightly. ![]() I'm not posting here to complain though because v9.1 has come a long way to minimising this effect (Good job Horizon). I too love this software and have used it for many years now. To answer your question, I dont know if there really is any way to pin point specifically what is causing this phenomenon on some systems. I personally have gone through 3 systems over the use of Rollback and in each system i've noticed the slow down. Yet i have read many people say that there system does not slow down so.... ![]() i guess im just not lucky. Dispite this, i am very pleased with the latest version of Rollback and the slight slow down is now just a minor issue for me. More importantly, Horizon have made this version very stable, especially if your computer BSOD's or you get a power failure. Chkdsk no longer does endless fixes which ultimately trashes your HD. This was a major issue with previous v8 (for me anyway). Getting back to the slower boot time, as it stands now, its a very small hit for the power and control Rollback RX allows. ![]() EDIT: I noticed your system is AMD. My systems have always been Intel. Currently have Intel Q6600. Maybe Rollback is optimized to run better on AMD. I wonder if Horizon would care to comment on this? Last edited by carfal; 09-23-2010 at 07:48 AM. |

An extra 17 secs is a heck of a long time to wait for an entertainment centre to boot. Tolerable on your own when you are the tech guru, but not so clever when the family is gathered around waiting for the latest time-shifted episode of something.
Maybe never shut it down, just use sleep or hibernate and use scheduled reboots in the middle of the night to clear the Windows crap? Win7 seems much better on up-time. |
