Default If malware damages MBR, will it kill Rollback Rx?

No current issue/problem here, but I am curious.

If my MBR (Master Boot Record) gets hit by malware, annoyware virus etc.,
will Rollback Rx be killed?

-If the answer if really involved and complex, I will assume that Rollback Rx can not survive an attack on the MBR (without help from other "clean-up" and/or anti virus/malware programs)

Thanks

tubby

Hi tubby,

Rollback Rx (when active) protects the MBR. Furthermore, many Anti-Virus programs also protect the MBR against malware. However, if you would like to add specific MBR protection you can d/l and install MBRGuard (which is freeware).

Cheers,

I wonder if MBRGuard would allow or at least "flag" the installation of Rollback (or any other program) that "modifies" (or replaces?) the original MBR.

-Thanks, I will read up on this software!

Tubby, I'm guessing the sensible thing to do is install Rollback RX and then install MBRGuard.

I have W7x64 so i'm waiting for the 64bit version of MBRGuard to come out of beta. before i test it.

Edit: Of coarse the reverse would apply before uninstalling Rollback. In fact i think it may even be imperative. You would make sure you've uninstalled (or disabled) MBRGuard before uninstalling Rollback. I think the cosequences would be disastrous if Rollback was unable to write to the MBR during uninstall?? What's your opinion on this pvsurfer?

Exactly. MBRGuard (aka BootGuard) has been on my system for a month (and I never notice it's there).

Default Thanks!

Thanks!

By the way. If you are at all interested, I have the link to Horizon's "ad" (video included) regarding Rollback Rx in my ill-named "Let's kill Rollback Rx" post.
