Hi,
why is it necessary to uninstall Rollback Rx before updating to a new version? I think itīs a disadvantage because I loose all my snapshots. Also Iīm afraid that my Computer donīt boot after uninstall - in Comodo forum you can read many threads from people who have after uninstalling Comodo Time Machine a destroyed Windows-Installation. I am searching here in the forum, but I donīt find anything. So what are the technical reasons for uninstall before updating? Many thanks for information and help! ![]() Werderforever |

Let me set your mind at rest. Many of us have ended up here having had bad experiences with Comodo Time Machine (CTM), including me. By comparison RollBack Rx (RBRx) is heavenly reliable and the uninstall should be trouble-free.
Why uninstall? I can only guess, but if an updated version of the software used a slightly different database structure, just loading the new software over the old version would not then recreate the database in the new format, and then you really would have a dead system. |

Please don't mention Time Machine again. 3 computers all trashed. Complete reformats for all due to corrupted MBR.
No issues with RRX. When you uninstall RRX, you can then defrag your HDD which you couldn't do before. Works out great. Last edited by Masterblaster; 11-05-2010 at 10:31 AM. |

CTM is based on V8 Rollback code which Comodo appears to have stolen from Horizon according to THIS
Comodo have completely butchered this code to try to "make" it their own and well ...... the results speak for themselves. But if you've been to the CTM forums then you already know this. Enough said.

Many thanks for your help!
![]() Yes, I know the Comodo forum. CTM is not a choice for me, because I donīt wanīt to loose my data. Let us forget CTM and back to Rollback Rx. I am very interested to hear why uninstalling is needed before updating. Could anybody from HorizonDataSys please answer this question?

I see where you're coming from (with input from your Wish List entry), you want to have multiple environments (maybe one optimised for gaming?) that you can switch between.
I've thought about this, I am currently running a gash environment day-to-day and another one which I am gradually honing to my requirements and will eventually make my system proper - but I can still get the daily tasks done without corrupting the development environment. However, I don't see RBRx as a solution for multiple environments long-term because of the need to uninstall on a regular basis for system maintenance (be that RBRx updates or disc defrags), and that Windows or AV updates do not get propogated through the different operating snapshots and therefore become tiresome. I *think* it should be possible to run different optimisations of Windows using different users (or at least it would be in the enterprise versions), but if you want real seperation then go fo a multi-boot. |

@nexstar: Yes, that helps! Many thanks!
![]() @Owl: It is a nice feature to switch between several snapshots, but it is not neccessary. In the next few weeks I want to upgrade my Hardware and afterwards I install Windows 7 and all needed Software. Then I want to update to a new Baseline, so I can go back to that Baseline, which includes all neccessary Software. Because of that it is eligible that I can update Rollback Rx to an newer Version without loosing snapshots and the Baseline (...the new created Baseline after installing the Software I mean). Naturally I can use an Image-Program like Drive Cloner Rx or True Image for backuping up the current state, but itīs obviously a little bit tricky with installed Rollback. So it would be nice when updating is possible without uninstalling Rollback, but the reasons for the decision from HDS not to allow that, described in another Thread (Thanks to Graham for that) I can understand.
