I have been reading some threads talking about an upcoming V10. They start a year or so ago and eventually talk about a release in June 2011, and now mention maybe when Win8 comes out. Maybe this is why there are no updates. There are none.

![]() There have been many "updates" to Rollback since its release of version 9, correcting many of its discovered shortcomings. What there hasn't been is a MAJOR RELEASE of a new version (the hotly anticipated v10 ). With Windows 8 on the horizon, it's probably a reasonable strategy to head there immediately rather than stretch out the life of v9.1. W8's developer version is available now and if you want a product releasable when it's finally issued, you do need to start now. To wait will frustrate many users of the new OS when it's released due to the unavailability of a compatible Rollback product. It's important for HDS to get a jump on this situation since they appear to be the premier ISR product in the marketplace, and I'm sure would like to remain so. Rumor has it that M$ might have a similar feature in the final release of W8 (I, personally, don't think so... just a slightly better SYSTEM RESTORE feature)... if true, HDS will have to make theirs just a bit better to maintain market share or the product will be history following W8's release (you do remember NETSCAPE, don't you?). I know we all would like Ultimate Super Drive Cloner (the much rumored completely integrated imaging product with Rollback), but to provide that and ignore W8, IMHO, would be a major marketing mistake for Rollback. I think the best advice here is to lay back, chill out, and have a 'Rita!

It is not that they don't own imaging software, it is the pain of imaging with Rollback installed. |

I am aware of this absurd policy however what bothers me at this time is the above post indicating that an update is available, and links being provided to the update, but when you follow the links there is no update. How foolish is that?

The thought occurred to me that when we are required to uninstall to defrag or do an image, we should re-install from the download at the RB site rather than save the original .exe file and re-install from that. We will then get any updates available. Then we can check the build number to see if there is an update. I saved the .exe from my first installation, and was going to use that for my re-installations, but I think I'll do the above instead. That way we don't have to check the forum etc.

Yep.. I'm still lurking.. been here on and off for 3 years now waiting for this major update and honestly, I do not see it coming..
Why? Have you seen the train wreck that is Windows 8? Even though it's not done cooking yet there is tons of info about it Take this video for instance 10 Reasons Windows 8 Will Fail - FrugalTech - YouTube !0 reasons why Windows 8 will fail. This guy makes a lot of sense. This is a Vista nightmare all over again waiting to happen. Reading the popular forum posts about the development release shows there is not a lot of interest in developing for this monster. Microsoft is even getting rid of the start button. Windows 8 will be a hybrid desktop slash mobile app platform. They are developing this for tablet PC's not for the need of tablet or touch screen PC to have a new needed operating system, but to encourage the sales of more tablet/touch screen PC hardware. Windows 7 is the new XP and folks will stick with it long before they switch to windows 8 and then only because they are forced to do so. IMO HorizonDataSys is making the stupid move waiting on this train wreck to happen. They could have already improved the product with a major release, increased their user base and reaped the monetary benefits all this time. Now when they discover Windows 8 is nothing they want to develop for it will be too late. I would not be surprised if HorizonDataSys goes under. You heard it here first folks.. let's wait and see.. cus that's all we are doing anyway for the last 3 years. |

I'd like to see a new version as well. Other software companies seem to be creating software that will work with Win 8 (Avast 7 beta for example), but possibly there are other considerations for a rollback program. Since Comodo is reviving Time Machine, I would indeed like to see RBRx updated. That said--it's solid as is and has saved my bacon many times and made my life easier. It simply works well.

I wish I could say the same. I had to stop using it because it crashed my system in an un-repairable way more than once. I LOVED RBX when it worked right but I cannot trust it not to crash me. That's why I'm so eager for a new version.
