Hi all, Thank you for having me on the forum and I'll try not to be a nuisance, but I am totally green as far as Rolback RX is concerned and I didn't want to Hijack the other New User Questions thread.
I've been reading about defragging, snapshots, and the complex way that Rollback works. Think I understand the main pricipals but would welcome any advice. So far, having been using Rollback for a month, I haven't tampered with any settings - having allowed the installation to go through using the defaults. Q1: I believe I have Rollback set to take a snapshot at every bootup. Should I delete old snapshots manually and, if so, how and where? Or is there a good recommended internal setting - again, please direct me to where it is. Q2: I have seen Rollback defragging snapshots. Do I need to do any other form of defragging? This is a new PC and has Windows 7 OS. I really don't want to tamper with anything that appears to be working beautifully (it's already got me out of a couple of scrapes, lol) so would prefer users advice before doing anything. Thanks for your help

Greetings Lyn,
Not sure if you've already read these threads but I highly suggest it: How Many Snapshots? RollBack strategy questions Let's see if we can get additional feedback here. Hi Lyn
Welcome. My responses to your questions would be as follows: Q1:The boot time snapshot is the default and is configurable. Personally I have got rid of that for a number of reasons but there is nothing wrong with that approach. You can delete snapshots manually or set an automatic delete (and defrag) schedule from the Settings section (under Control Panel on the left hand side of the main GUI...you will find the options under the Advanced Settings). How yo set this is up to you but I use Delete All Unlocked after 6 days...but that is on the basis that I take a full image stored off line every 7 days...so the two approaches complement each other. Q2: I have seen Rollback defragging snapshots. Do I need to do any other form of defragging? This is a new PC and has Windows 7 OS. You can customise this in the same place as per the deletion settings referred to in Q1. Again this is personal choice and relates to a balance between the delay that the defragging causes and optimising the snapshot storage. Again, personlly I use (i) Defrag snapshots at next system boot aftger deleting 4 snapshots & (ii) Defrag snapshots at next system boot after deleting 8 snapshots. This seems to work for me but its is best to experiemnt to find what works best for you. Occassionally I carry out a manual defrag...but that is rare. Hope that helsp? Enjoy RB Rx. Regards Balders

Thanks for your replies, guys. I will look at the threads given.
I will also have a little look around the settings and at least delete some of the snapshots as I think there are 50+ at the moment. It was the complicated nature of the tree structure which, although understanding the make-up of it, I wasn't sure how far back to delete in order not to distrurb the structure. Mainly, I had come on to make sure that my account was setup in case I need to get here in a hurry ![]() Thanks again

Hi guys, just a quick note to say everything is working well. The information I looked at was a great help in putting my mind at rest regarding my settings. Basically, I'm happy for Rollback to just get on with what it's doing as it is a great program and causes me no hassle whatsoever.
![]() The only thing I don't know is whether I am supposed to check for updates periodically, or will these be done automatically?

Good to hear back that this is the case!
I am sure that I speak for all when I say that is what the forum members are here for...and perhaps one day you will feel able to help out someone else based on your own experiences and accumulated knowledge...that is the fun of it. Enjoy!
