Question Restore points

Hi,

I have other applications (Revo Uninstaller, Microsoft Security Essentials etc.)
that automatically create restore points when performing some operations.

Same for Windows Update, would I have to do "snapshots" before each update? Which would require disabling "automatic updating"?

How will they be affected by Rollback RX since it disables "system restore"?

Thanks,

Whitey

Hi Whitey,

Welcome to the Horizon DataSys forum. Let's see if we can get some suggestions here. For reference, support can be reached at http://support.horizondatasys.com

Best,
Jacob

Hi Whitey,

If System Restore is disabled (turned-off) for your C-drive, as it should be with Rollback Rx installed, those apps you mentioned will not be able to create restore points.

Updates (automatic and/or manual) take effect in your current RBRx snapshot, just like the installation of a new program. While you can, of course, elect to take a new RBRx snapshot before any manual update or new installation, there is no way that RBRx can automatically take a snapshot before an automatic update.

However, you can schedule RBRx to take a new snapshot on a periodic basis at a frequency which best suits your 'comfort-level', but I would suggest at the very least you have it take a new snapshot at first bootup every day!

Hth,
pv

Thanks guys...

I seriously want this software as it seems like a dream come true if a system issue comes up.

I currently run O&O disk image and do regular backups thru Windows backup (with system images).

Can I do without these once RBRx is installed or do you have any advice as to additional security?

Also are there plans for an update that will allow disk defragging without uninstalling RBRx??

Thanks again,

Whitey

Whitey,

Although RBRx is a great program and I wouldn't be without it, you should be aware of the following:

1. RBRx's main purpose is to protect your system drive/partition, so (should you have more than one HDD) it is not able to protect your other physical drives.

2. RBRx is not intended for a 'bare-metal' recovery, so for example if your system drive suffers a hard-crash you would need a disk-image backup to recover you system onto a replacement drive (and there's good info in the forum on how to properly create a disk-image when using RBRx)!

3. Also when using RBRx, disk-defragging doesn't really serve any purpose (but snapshot defrags definitely do!) so don't sweat it.
