Question "Improper Shutdown"

Season's Greetings all

Has anyone had the issue of a dialog box popping up over the RBRx splash screen before windows loads saying" Improper Shutdown Checking Disk"??

I run RBRx (new installs) on two machines (XP & 7) and it does this on both EVERY time the machines boot up. The box has a timer that counts down to 100% while it is apparently "checking the disk" then Windows loads normally.

I can assure you that the machines are shutdown normally each time so I can't figure it out.

Anyone knows what gives and how to make it STOP??

Happy Holidays,

Whitey

Whitey, I only get that dialog box when i get a rare BSOD or a power failure. In these instances you would expect that dialog.

In your situation something very strange is going on for both machines to be doing this on every reboot.

Can i ask

1. What happens when you rollback to the installation snapshot? Does this still occur? If the problem goes away then i would suggest importing all your data from your LAST snapshot that Rollback took before rolling back, to the installation snapshot your in now. Then delete all remaining snapshots.

IMPORTANT: I say again. Make sure you've retrieved all your current data from the last snapshot to your current working snapshot before you delete all remaining snapshots. Once you delete snapshots the data is gone forever.

2. If the above does not cure your problem then i would recommend uninstalling Rollback, running chkdsk and then reinstalling Rollback (take the opportunity to defrag while Rollback is uninstalled. )

IMPORTANT: Not to confuse you but if you tried rolling back to the installation snapshot then its probably safer to Rollback back to the last snapshot again before uninstalling Rollback. That way when Rollback Hi-lights "current system" during uninstall, it really is current system.

Just to state the obvious, while Rollback is uninstalled check to make sure your problem no longer exists.

Thanks...

Here's the thing...on my notebook I have rolled it back to before the install and am going to do a fresh install of RBRx (I will defrag and run CHKDSK beforehand) and will see what happens.

On the desktop...since this is a new install and I really don't care about losing any snapshots could I delete the snapshots and redo the baseline and see what happens or should I try rolling back to the initial snapshot and see?

Could this be a security software issue? I run MS security essentials and ASO (advanced system optimizer) which has multiple realtime "shields". Should they be disabled before install? or possibly causing the issue?

Thanks again for the help,

Whitey

Yes rollback to the initial snapshot as i already suggested in my first point. If the problem still exists then i dont believe updating or reseting the baseline will solve your issue.

I dont think it would hurt to disable ASO. MS security essentials should be OK to leave running but it wont hurt to disable this as well and see if this fixes your problems.
