This is a discussion on Acronis first or Rollback RX first? within the RollBack Rx forums, part of the Disaster Recovery Programs category; Firstly let me convey my pleasure in learning about a forum here. I just happened to find this by chance ...

Firstly let me convey my pleasure in learning about a forum here. I just happened to find this by chance and appreciate Horizon's efforts in fosterig an ecosystem.
I have a question that I didn't get any results for by searching the forum first, so I'm starting a new thread. I have Windows Vista on my Presario laptop and I haven't touched the 2 partitions that it came with (C: and the recovery). Now I intend to install Ubuntu on my laptop. I presume, by reading other threads, that the orderly way to install Ubuntu will be to NOT have Rollback on the system in the first place, which means to uninstall Rollback and then reinstall it after Ubuntu is on my system alongwith Vista. Now the extra-cautious person that I am (that's why I have Rollback !!!), I have purchased a product called Acronis Disk Director Suite, which handles the partitioning and multi-OS stuff well. I have only installed Disk Director but not OS Selector. Now should I install OS Selector before or on top of Rollback? Please solve my confusion. Thanks and cheers to the community!! |

I'm not too familiar with Ubuntu - could you please let us know what it is designed for... My gut says that it is a virtualization utility.
With regards to having disk director and trying to partition or reset your partitions after RollBack Rx is installed is definately a recipe for disaster to happen... The very reason that have RollBack and Acronis to prevent from happening... You would want to first partition your drive. Once you drive(s) and partitions are set the way that you like, you can install or configure your multi-boot system(s) environment with your Acronis Disk Director. You will need to install RollBack Rx on both (all) partitions. You will need to select the custom install option and install RollBack Rx on you primary OS first. Then you would need to install just the GUI component onto the second OS. You can not partition or install a multi-os or any bootstrap application once RollBack Rx is installed. You must configure your partitions and configurations prior to the installation of RollBack Rx. I hope that this helps. Feel free to submit a support ticket if you need more assistance. You can do this at http://support.horizondatasys.com Thanks. And welcome to the forum!
