Using W7 - Home Premium and the latest version of RBRx, dated July 18, 2011.
I've been using RBRx since very early in 2009 (Ver. 8) so I'm not exactly a newbie. (I may be a dummie but not a newbie ). Any way . . . I have two licenses, each for a separate laptop. Periodically, about every six weeks or so, I uninstall RBRx, cleanup the drive, defrag, make an Acronis disk image and then re-install RBRx. Some months ago, all was fine. Then I started having to call Horizon because I was "exceeding the maximum number of installations". Several weeks ago, Support told me I should have no further problems because the latest version of RBRx communicated with the license server during the uninstall. Sorry - but WRONG! Since I've been using the latest version, I have to contact Support each and every time I want to re-install/activate my copy of RBRx. Yesterday seemed to top it off. I called as I had been doing before, pressed zero to talk to an Operator. The Operator then patched me thru to someone who could re-authorize my activation. I had been assured this was the way to handle this problem, as I didn't submit an actual Ticket and couldn't just "Press 2' to speak to Support directly. The Support person I got yesterday didn't seem eager to help and asked me question after question about my Reference numbers. See, I had originally had Version 8 and when moved up to Ver. 9, had the original licenses revoked and reissued. To make a long story short, I will not call Support again. I just don't need the hassle. What I do need is for RBRx to work properly. I started to read something about other activation issues, where a responder referenced other forum posts. When I tried to read that, I found it was over 13 forum pages and I just couldn't get through it. 13 pages? If it's an important enpough, it should be a 'sticky' at the top of the forum. OK, done venting now. I just want my RBRx to work. I paid for the frickin' program. I should have a right to uninstall and reinstall on the same platform as many times as I wish. OK, I guess I wasn't done venting. ![]() Does anyone have any ideas for me - but don't ask me to read through page after page of a previous forum post. I also think it's stupid to have to resort to a command line function to try to run a defrag while RBRx is still installed. I've tried it and had no great success with it. As well, when I try to make an Acronis image with RBRx installed, I don;t always get a good image I can rely on. Without RBRx, the image can be reinstalled with no problems. With RBRx, the image screws up the boot sector every time I try to install it as a test. To me, that means the image is unusable. Thanks for listening. I can't comment on your activation issues, I've taken the chicken's way out and not yet done an uninstall-reinstall cycle (even though I've had RBRx on my PC for ages). Regarding imaging however, there is a topic pinned at the top about that: IFW (Image For Windows). DO read - it's very interesting.

Hello Chuck. Certain external defraggers change the HD serial or ID (or something like that).
Initially i used Perfect Disk and i always had activation issues. I then changed to Ultimate Defrag and havent looked back. Worth a try.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll have to get to work and do some research.
The interesting thing here is that I was doing some "debugging" on a driver issue and 'blue screened'. I couldn't get W7 back after many, many tries. Finally had to restore an Acronis image from yesterday. That all went well except that the MBR was restored to original configuration. So, first thing I had to do was uninstall RBRx. It stalled for awhile, apparently trying to find my snapshots. When it couldn't find any, it immediately uninstalled itself. (As I was trying to get the machine going, I knew RBRx was toast, so I tried to use the W7 Repair Disc to avoid more blue screens. That, of course, reset the MBR. But, alas, it still wouldn't restart properly so I restored the image.) So, another support ticket to Horizon because I've exceeded the maxi . . . , aww, you know the rest. Thanks again. Chuck |

I have been using Rx for ab out 3 years now and am using 9.1 (but did not install the latest release). I uninstall Rx monthly to do system maintenance and have never had an issue with reactivation (I hope I have not jinxed myself now). Are you allowing auto register/activate? There was one time I tried to activate Rx after a reinstall and I did not have an Internet connection I got the message you have mentioned but when I finally did get an Internet connection and went the auto active route it activated without a problem.
Just thought I would mention it, it seems too simple but......... |

I always try to activate with an active Internet connection. It seems that all was well for many months. But once I reached some magic, hidden number of activations, I have to request help from Support each time I want to reactivate after a reinstall.
Thanks Chuck |
