Default Questions about Rollback Rx

Hi,

I am previous "GoBack" (which is now defunct) user and very interested in trying "Rollback Rx" on my systems. I miss the easy ability to take my system back to a previous state.

With GoBack, I would occasionally run into problems where I would get an error message "GoBack stropped logging due to massive file changes". This would often happen after I moved some files or installed a new program with a lot of files going onto my hard drive. Does Rollback ever have such problems and give similar error ,message where it just stops working because it is "overwhelmed" by file/system changes?

Also, one thing that I liked about GoBack was that after a restore, it would present me with a listing of all the files that had been modified (restored) and allowed me to "check" a box next to the ones I wanted to keep (and not restore). Does Rollback also have this feature?

If someone would please let me know about these issues I would really appreciate it.

Thanks. :-)

Best Wishes,
Brian

I am a previous GoBack user so I understand what you are looking for.

RollBack is very different from GoBack in that it does not store copies of previously existing files, it stores information as to where the data was on the drive and it protects those areas until the snapshot that contains the data is deleted. For this reason you will not get the "GoBack stropped logging due to massive file changes" sort of situation.

RollBack will not provide you with a list of changed files but it will enable you to recover files from any snapshot that exists, it will even allow you to mount snapshots as virtual drives and you can copy files and or folders from the virtual drives to the real world HD.

RollBack is not the same as GB in the sense that GB recorded every change as it occurred. RB will take snapshots at most hourly and while I was not happy about this when I started using RB as a GB replacement I have not found it to be a detriment.

I have found RB to be a much more reliable program than GB ever was and I was a user way back when Roxio was the publisher. It has never failed me over the apx 3 years I have been using it. In short, I highly recommend it as a GoBack replacement.

I hope this helps.

PS: before you rollback the system you can designate files or folders that you want to keep intact, I have not used this feature but its there if you want it. Also, before RX will revert your system it will take a snapshot of the existing system so that you can roll forward to it if you wish or access files or folders that you may have created after the time of the snapshot you are rolling back to.

As a brief user of this feature, be appraised of the following...

If the file you're trying to designate as "remaining after a rollback" is IN USE following the rollback (email database, contact file, etc.), the preservation will not occur. Good examples of this are Contact Managers or Reminder systems that start automatically with Windows.

But you still can STOP those applications, mount the RESTART snapshot taken at Rollback time (SYSTEM STATE prior to Rollback), then restore those files manually, if necessary.
