Hi,
Rollback supports since last version SSD. Has anybody experience in using Rollback with a SSD? Christmas is soon. Perhaps I want to buy a SSD. Which SSD (Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, OCZ or other) or Controller (Sandforce, Marvell or Samsung) could you advise? And will Rollback be working fine with an SSD? SSD normally needs no defrag and it´s a little bit dangerous for SSD. Can I use or should I use Rollback´s built-in-Defrag? Many thanks for your advises! ![]() Werderforever |

yes, I know this post, but some additional experiences with different SSD and Controllers would help. Interesting for me is too, is boot-speed with a SSD much better? My problem is, that Rollback with a HDD boots very slow, see also here: Slowly Boot Werderforever |

Hi WF,
As you are probably aware, I use a few 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD's with RB and haven't experienced any problems. I keep a Seagate Momentus 7,200rpm 120GB non-SSD drive which is a clone of my SSD drive so I ran some tests to compare boot times between the two as the drives themselves are the only difference. I do have a rather fullly-laden system which, on standard drives, does take an age to boot up. On the laptop though I would normally resume from standby or hibernate mode so a full boot is only done periodically. I'd forgotten how long this takes without SSD! As you had issues with RB installed, I repeated the tests after uninstalling RB to get a comparison. I booted to the same point each time when my system connected to the internet. Here's what I found: 7,200 drive with RB installed - 6m 35s 7,200 drive without RB - 5m 30s SSD with RB installed - 42s SSD without RB - 39s I also tried a 5,400rpm 40GB test drive I use which had a fresh install of Windows 7: 5,400 drive with RB installed - 54s The results made me feel very glad that I was using SSD but also determined to find out just what I had installed which was adding 5 to 6 minutes to my boot time on a normal drive. yes, that´s what I´m talking about! Very interesting for me! My experience (all with 7.200 HDD): With installed RB: sometimes 5, sometimes 6 minutes. Without RB: 1 minute and 15 seconds. So I have the hope, that with a SSD it would be much faster but I´m not sure,,, Werderforever |

Well, I am quite certain that you will see a dramatic increase in speed with SSD, obviously not just at boot time. However, there is clearly some underlying issue with your RB installation as the differential in boot times is just too great. As you can see from my times, there is a slow-down with RB but, for me, an acceptable one. It may well be that the problem goes away if you move to SSD and the differential may end up being just a few seconds but my inquisitive side tells me that this is something which HDS should try to get to the bottom of in case they have some fundamental issue with the driver for your current drive or some other lurking inefficiency. Are they aware that this hasn't been resolved? Graham |

many thanks for your help! ![]() I have contacted HDS and they think, that it is an compatibility problem. HDS willl construct a test build to see, whether the problem is solved.Then I will report here my experience. Werderforever |
