Hi All,
I uninstalled my RB successfully to do some maintenance. When I attempted to re-install, I got to the window that asks for your Product ID. I don't have an ID number provided to me. I entered my Product Key, but it was rejected. Next to where you enter the ID no. is a box marked DEMO. I clicked it where upon it entered a number in the place you enter the product ID, and the installation finished. I was then asked to register, and I entered my key which says it expired. I sent in the above to support and got a ticket no. I'm relating it here in case someone has an answer. Thanks for any response.

A few days later, I tried to activate a PC which had only had a (now) expired demo installed and I got the same error. I tried it a couple more times and double-checked the serial I was using. Still no joy so I raised another ticket. HDS asked me to check that I wasn't using the demo license (I wasn't) but when I tried to activate this time, it worked. So, either something was 'tweaked' at their end or there is some situation which is causing this to fail even when a valid serial is being used. I'm not sure what error comes back if it can't reach the server on attempted activation but I guess that would be one obvious reason for it to fail. Graham |

IT IS VERY IRRITATING, and no other software program that I am aware of has this policy. |

I am confused, why would you need to reactivate unless you were reinstalling Rx? If your PC crashed why would you not simply use Rx to restore to a snap that was made just before the crash, why, in this circumstance are you doing an image restore? Just hit home during the reboot and select the snap to restore to. No need to reactivate Rx as it was not uninstalled or deactivated.

I was installing a whole disk encryption program, called DiskCryptor, on my system drive which allows you to place the boot files on a USB stick, thus not disturbing the MBR where Rollback resides. I have plenty of free memory on my System disk, but during the encryption process, about 80% of the way thru, I kept getting popups from Rollback stating it was low on disk space and eventually, my installation snapshot just crashed. I suppose it would work fine if you could easily un-install Rollback first, do the encryption, then reinstall. But because of Horizon's horrible and Draconian re-activation policies, I did it without uninstalling Rx first, then going through the process of getting them to reactivate my two computers. I have switched to Rohos Logon using a Yubikey instead with no problems and use TrueCrypt file containers on sensitive information on my other drives. I have been using Rx for years and it is one of the best and most useful programs in my arsenal. Last edited by silver66; 12-21-2011 at 07:16 AM. |

Ah, understood, thanks for the clarification. Still, this would not likely be a common occurrence. You wrote

I think that the mechanism can and does work in the current version as can be seen from the post here. Just not all the time, unfortunately.
It obviously can't deal with a forced removal of RB which I find myself doing quite a lot when testing stuff. Also, I don't know what it does if it can't connect to their server at the time RB is uninstalled for whatever reason. Graham |
