Default Black Screen Workaround.

Hi folks,

I'm having a issue with Rollback v9.1. Everytime I try to start my computer I get a BLACK SCREEN right after the Rollback v9.1 splash screen "Press home..." and before the Windows splash screen with the loading bar. So, if I don't press HOME key to get into the Rollback, it was supposed to load the Windows, but it doesn't and it just get the Black Screen. So, let's share a little workaround if you're having the same issue while developers doesn't fix it.

When you see the the Rollback v9.1 splash screen "Press home...", press the HOME key to get into the menu and select EXIT, there you go! It will load the Windows splash screen with the loading bar and will load your windows normally. In my case if I don't press anything and let it follows by itself, I get the stuck black screen.

I hope that can help somebody else.

Cheers,
Lucato.

I'm not sure if I had the same problem. I would start my PC and walk away. Most of the time it was up and running Windows XP Pro SP3 once I returned but occasionally Windows never loaded. It was locked in a black screen. After a few times of this happening I ran chkdsk /r and I then watched it boot. But the lock up never occurred while I was watching. So maybe chkdsk fixed the problem.

I should mention, I was on ver 8.1 when this happen.

Hey WRJ, thanks for the tip. I'll try that, once I guess what I've commented above was a huge coincidence, because today it didn't work this way. Today even doing the steps abod I still got the blank/black screen. I'll try the chkdsk /r and will post back if I get it fixed.

If any other uses/member has another tip how to fix it, please, share with us.

Thanks.

The chkdsk /r for v9.1 didn't work here for me. I'm still getting the black screen. I'll try to uninstall Rollback, defrag and install over to see if it solves something. I'll post later if I get any result in this new try. Rrrrrrr! I'm getting nervous!

Lucato: when you ran chkdsk did it do all 5 steps of repair? There can be another issue where chkdsk only runs 3 out of the 5 repair processes.

Hi Lucato, I doubt chkdsk will help. Because chkdsk is mainly used to fix or help file system problems. From your description of the problem, looks like the PC is having problem to load partition tables after the Rollback splash screen, so we are not even at the file system yet.
Please try this on your PC and see what happens:
1. Reboot the PC, hit HOME key to access Rollback subsystem console.
2. Select Advanced options->Program settings from the subsystem
3. Type "UseStdMBR=1" (without quotation marks) in the program settings field. Press Enter to set the value.
4. Restart the PC to see if it boots better. Thanks.

Yup, it ran 5 steps and didn't solve. Thanks for the try.

Hey DevTeam, thanks a lot! Finally!

Btw, I saw in the tickets another solution too. So, there are two ways that fixed this issue. (At least seems that fixed and I'm not having to restart the computer for a while). The solutions can be:

This one you've mentioned to set as:
UseStdMBR=1

Or set as:
Mouse=0

Both solve the issue. I mean, one at each time. Now my doubts are:

What does UseStdMBR=1 do?
What does Mouse=0 do?

Which one is better to use? These commands make any difference by saving or retrieving snapshots from Windows or from Dos splash screen? Will it change some stuff in my snapshots or will Rollback work normally?

Thanks in advance.
