We would need to find out more about what is happening during your boot process. What I would need you to do is send our techs your log files so that our development team can let you know what (if anything) is slowing down your boot process.

These log files can be found here:

After you log into the Windows, please collect the following 3 files and include them in a Service Ticket at http://support.horizondatasys.com

- setup.log (c:\program files\shield)
- subconsole.log (c:\program files\shield)
- 128.dat (c:\program files\shield)

Thanks for your help. Will send this info and see what happens: in any event it,s much better now, I Have turned off via the command shieldcmd /defrag, and I follow this:
# Run command line switch "shieldcmd /defrag" (no quotes) from start/run
# Defrag your OS and File system using your own defragging utility (eg. Diskkeeper, Perfect Disk, Windows etc.)
# Run update baseline from RollBack Rx client application console -> manage baseline -> make the current system (after defragged system) as a new baselline snapsho

At the end , the pc restart , the blue screen comes on , and starts to lupdate data, But from 0 to 100% takes 30 minutes to finish!!!!!! Ar that point Windosws come over well, I chek everything , the baseline is loaded well and after this I have made another two snaps, It runs better now from some reason , and boot is much faster but I stll ignore why the baseline after use a Perfectdisk defrag. takes that long time to be done.I hope the next baseline update will be normal and fast like before to do all the steps or instructions you explain in this same forum.

ea3ot, the time taken to update the baseline depends on how much data or programs you've added on since the baseline was last updated or created. The more "changes" there are the longer it will take. 30 min is about the time it takes me after about 2 months worth of use before updating the baseline. So judging from both our experiences, this seems normal.

The slow boot time issue is something that has plagued Rollback RX since i've been using it from v7 onwards. I cant speak for previous versions since i never used them. I've had three different comupters since then and each time Rollback was installed i've noticed a significant slow down in boot time over time. It seems the more snapshots that are taken results in a slower and slower boot time. It isnt an obvious slow down at first, but the accumilated effect definitely takes its toll.

An even bigger slow down is almost always noticed by me immediately after i Rollback to a snaphot. The first boot after I Rollback takes a lot longer than normally. Subsequent reboot seems to be quicker again but still not as quick as when Rollback is not installed. I say "ALMOST always" because every now and then i Rollback to a snapshot and my system seems to boot really quick. This lasts until i Rollback again and im back to slower boot times.

This is something i've learned to live with and have accepted as a compromise to having a fully protected system. I doubt that there's anything Horizon can do to completely eliminate this. They have done much to improve the situation but have still fallen short of completely resolving it.

Who knows, one day it may be worked out

Good morning ea3ot:

It appears that you run the following at startup:

1. Are you taking a lot of snapshots during the day?
2. The /defrag switch will run RB defrag. You can also run this from the UI.
3. When you do a new baseline every day, you lose all your history. I assume that is okay with you?

Just for fun, can you do a test for me? Do not run this startup process for 10 days, but continue to take snapshots. At the end, run a few tests and get the metrics. Then run the startup process described above nd run the same metrics again and post the results.

I'm not being a smart-ar*e, I genuinely want to know. There are stories that say one thing and stories that say the other, so a real metric would be nice.

Cheers,

DMC
