Newbie question, long-time GoBack user.
I'm using the 15 day trial to see if I want to dump GoBack. As a test, I did the original Rollback install and baseline a couple of days ago. I did an automatic shapsot @ 4:00 AM today. Later this morning, I took another Shapshot. I then tried a Rollback to the most recent shapshot (only 15 minutes or so old). It worked, but the process after rebooting took well over 20 minutes. My PC isn't a "slouch" but that seems very long. It stepped thru the following screens in the process: 1. Defragging Snapshot 1/2 2. Defragging Snapshot 2/2 3. Defragging Current Shapshot 4. Calculating Space 5. Loading Shapshot Is this normal and should it take this much time to restore a Snapshot that is only 15 minutes old? |

sparkyguy, i think the uninstall advice given is premature and unlikely to resolve your issue.
The boot time steps you outlined are a normal process that Rollback performs determined by these settings![]() When these trigger points are reached, a boot time defrag is triggered which adds time to the normal boot time process. In your case, the boot time defrag coincidentally has been triggered at the same time as your requested restore. There is nothing abnormal about this. However, the time of 20min does seem a little excessive. The only explanation i can think of is that since you only installed it a couple of days ago then this is most likely the first time a defrag has been performed by Rollback RX. To minimize the time it takes to perform its boot time defrags i suggest you perform MANUAL defrags from within Rollback console after each snapshot or every second snapshot you take (or Rollback takes). I think you'll find that the time the boot time defrags take to be more acceptable.

I don't disagree with carfal's comments but no way should it take any time near 20 minutes to revert your HDD. I have 20 or so snapshots and it just takes minutes. All I can say is if I were you, I would remove it, defrag, and reinstall it.
Speaking of defrag, you are not using an outside defrag program are you? I recently installed Norton 360 and was horrified to find that it automatically defrags during non use times. |

Turn off all the "automatic" defrag options. Defrag manually only! -I find it best to defrag after deleting a bunch of snapshots. I defrag twice a week But then, I take a snapshot (automatically of course) every hour! Those automatic defrags are ill-timed and annoying!
