Default RB vs CTM

I've had a bit of a 'time out' away from Rollback and have been trying out Comodo's Time Machine as an alternative.

I've got about 8 licenses for RB in various versions and my main reasons for giving CMT a go were that I didn't have to concern myself with the activation procedure and also that Comodo appeared to be implementing some of the wish-list that RB users had been asking for.

I always seem to be upgrading/re-installing one or more of the PC's and asking for my activation limit to be reset and, although it is never a problem, it is not immediate and I was keen to be free from that particular issue.

I've had a few problems with CMT but none which caused loss of data but there were two features which have brough me back to RB. The first is that CTM can now be upgraded without a re-install. This should be beneficial but, having some idea how RB/CTM work, I can't see how this can have been done without compromising the security of the snapshots. I may be doing a dis-service to Comodo but I don't feel comfortable with this particular implementation.

The other facility which I hadn't had to use until recently in CTM is the file recovery and I much prefer the RB version of this which is far more capable.

I know that the big plus CTM has is the price tag but I just wondered if others here had compared the two and what their experiences were.

CTM is a 100% disaster.
I installed their most recent build on 3 computers:
Desktop Windows 7-64
Laptop Vista 32
Laptop Vista 64
The install went OK. It basically worked. My impression was, it is a VERY stripped down version of RRX.
Their forums are FULL of users that had their MBR corrupted by uninstalling CTM. Once this happens, you must reformat and reinstall EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING is lost.
The uninstall corrupted the MBR on all 3 of my computers. I lost EVERYTHING.
I begged them to take their download down until they get it fixed. Their comment was "no software is bug free"!!!!!!!
Free is worth less than nothing when your losses are much worse than your gains.
Trust me, stay away from this software.

I also decided to try out CTM, only to discover during the installation that it's incompatible with TrueCrypt. As this is the best encryption software available IMHO, I'm not interested.
I'd rather stick with RB which hasn't given me any problems and allows me to use TC.

FYI. The Comodo Time Machine is compiled from an earlier versoin of Rollback Rx source code (v8.0) which was illegally sold to them by a partner.
We're going through legal process for this matter currently regarding this matter. What we can say is that Comodo does not own the IP and thus would mosty probably not be able to continue any constructive development on the product.

RollBack and EAZ FIX are now on V9.1 and will be developed well into the future.

i was given licensees for both, are they illegal to? they sure look like rollback,
how many clones are there to expect
i'm using now intel ssd so i cant use neither of them, rb incl wich i purchased.

comodo ctm had a fairly stable first release then it fell apart big time, be warned!

hi everyone,

i want to add the following to this discussion:
i use RX together with vmware player
this is a great combination.
CTM does not work in virtual machines, i tried it.
the benefit is that with rollback RX you can protect your VM the same way as with the snapshot function in vmware workstation.
this means that you can save a lot of money if you use RX in a free virtualisation product like vmware player or virtualbox
i just wanted to share this info with you all
Jimmy
