Default SHDSERV.EXE High CPU Issue

Hello,

I recently purchased a new WIN 7 PC and noticed excessive (annoyingly loud) fan activity on a regular basis. I've traced the problem to an RB RX process, "SHDSERV.EXE". For whatever reason, this background process intermittently runs my CPU at 25-30% for no apparent reason. The duration will vary but typically these high CPU spikes last around 30 - 45 seconds, occurring every few minutes. I understand that this process is associated with RB task scheduling however I am not currently running any schedules at all. I haven't encountered this problem with my other Win 7 or Vista PC's and just wondered if anyone might have any thoughts on the matter.

Also, in looking at another posting, apparently it is OK to stop the process. The question is, what impact will doing so have on my ability to use RB RX?

Unfortunately the fan noise is so excessive, I would have no choice but to uninstall RB RX if the issue cannot be resolved. Any comments appreciated.

Greetings, Misertee! This issue is being worked on by a user (CALBAR) and SUPPORT. If you want to follow what's happened up to date, see the thread...

"Rollback Rx constantly defragging..?"

I took SUPPORT's suggestion and I stopped the 1-min defrag that's going on in the background. This is *NOT* stopping SHDSERV.EXE, it must run. It is applying a command line switch to the program shieldcmd.exe. You may use a COMMAND PROMPT window running as an ADMINISTRATOR, then go to wherever Rollback is installed (Program Files/Shield, I believe) and execute the following command...

shieldcmd.exe /disableOPT [u administrator p password]

If you installed Rollback without the user/password security feature, The items in BRACKETS above (incl. the brackets) are not needed.

This will stop your periodic CPU saturation. This /disableOPT switch will hold until you re-Baseline your system... and that point you'll have to re-execute the above command. I've done this and it solved the problem on my system that you're having.

Hopefully SUPPORT (and user CALBAR) will report on the progress with this issue in the thread mentioned above.

Good luck!
